To evaluate the effectiveness of Reddit's recent logo update, this Logo Test compares the new 2023 logo with the 2017 Reddit logo.
In late November 2023, Reddit made headlines with its rebranding rollout, featuring a new logo, typeface, brand colours, and an update to their mascot, Snoo. This first rebranding since 2017 aimed to convey a more integrated, intuitive, and global look for the brand.
However, the refreshed logo that features the new 3D Snoo, now visible on Reddit websites and serving as application icon, was not well-received by Redditors online:

To investigate how consumers evaluate the new logo and its 7-year-old predecessor, a Logo Test was performed among 100 US consumers.
In summary, respondents rated both logos as average. However, they preferred the new logo, finding it more likable, elegant, and polished than the previous version.
As the rebranding underscores conversations on Reddit websites and communities as its unique brand identity, it’s noteworthy that only 13% and 9% of respondents associated the new logo with the internet and communications/information industry, respectively.
Regarding emotions evoked, slightly more respondents expressed positive feelings toward the new logo, like joy and happiness, compared to its predecessor.
The AI summaries of respondents’ open-ended responses reveal mixed opinions about both logos, complementing the standard assessment findings that neither logo significantly outperforms the other.
